On some jobs a crane can be used. Bear in mind a crane is strongest when the crane boom is directly overhead and the crane is picking something up from the deck of the crane or from the ground directly beside the crane. The farther the end of the boom is away from the base of the crane the weaker the cranes capacity.
In the picture above, the tower worker is in a personnel basket attached to the end of the crane boom. The worker is using hand signals or radio communication to talk to the crane operator and direct the crane operator to move the personal platform around the water tank. T he large tractor trailer truck shown near the crane in the picture, is there to bring in counterweights. Big slabs of weight that the crane lifts off the truck and sets on the deck of the crane to prevent the crane from tipping over.
